Our Mindful MD Retreat is a community for physicians of all backgrounds to gather, relax, learn, and connect with others in their field.

Inspired by the teachings of Hippocrates, who is often referred to as the “Father of Medicine,” we recognize the impact storytelling and literature can have in the field of medicine. At Teravana, we will offer a weekend consisting of workshops that will encourage you to harness your creativity and explore new skills collaboratively.

To kick off this fun filled, restorative weekend, we will be planting a Hippocrates tree at Teravana together to signify not healing of ourselves and of others but also of the planet.  As physicians, we value promoting environmental sustainability and protecting the planet for future generations.  Our partners at Archangel Ancient Tree Archive will ship a clone of the Hippocrates tree, known for absorbing 10 times more carbon than regular trees, to our Mindful MD retreat.

Mindful MD offers a range of activities led by esteemed leaders in the healthcare community. Emily Silverman MD, the creator and host of the acclaimed medical storytelling live show The Nocturnists, will share a 60 minute storytelling workshop. Emily will invite the group to respond to a work of art, and then facilitate a free writing exercise in response to a creative prompt. Participants will have the option to share their writing with the group at the end of the hour as a means of practicing self-expression and deep listening.

We believe that taking care of yourself is essential for providing quality care to others. Whether you choose to meditate under the trees, take a guided nature walk amongst the ancient genetics, or participate in a group yoga class, our retreat offers something for everyone. As an added bonus, we will be offering 5.5 hours of CME e-learning credit to be completed at your convenience.

Join us for a fun-filled weekend or day workshop where you can hang out with other healthcare professionals, learn new skills, and recharge in the midst of nature’s beauty.

The Teravana Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to healing our relationship with nature, is hosting MindfulMD.

What Past Participants are saying:

“I loved the sense of community and safety and acceptance, and the emotional generosity.”

“I loved being able to work in small groups with the other participants. Panels were interesting. The space was gorgeous and relaxing to be in. I enjoyed the free-time activities (I did art and yoga).”

“A place that many clinician leaders came to share their personal trauma and discuss projects that are personal to them.  Overall I would recommend it if you are in. place to find community around vulnerability as a clinician.”

“I have described it as a weekend that courageously journeys far beyond the Mindfulness cliche, deep into the heart of those whom we trust with our lives and meets them there in all their humanity.”
